Who am I?

Introvert vs extrovert

The real difference is where you get your energy, not how shy you are.

The key difference

Extroverts (also spelt extraverts) get energy from people, activity and stimulation. Introverts get energy from quiet time and use it up in busy social settings. Neither is better, and neither is the same as being shy or confident: shyness is fear of judgement, while introversion is simply a preference for less stimulation.

Signs you lean introvert

  • You need time alone after a social event, even a fun one
  • You prefer deep one-to-one talks to big groups
  • You think before you speak
  • You concentrate well on your own
  • Phone calls out of the blue feel draining

Signs you lean extrovert

  • You feel energised after a party
  • You think out loud and enjoy brainstorming
  • You get restless when alone for long
  • You make new friends easily
  • You enjoy being the centre of attention

What is an ambivert?

Most people are not at either extreme. If you enjoy company but also need regular time alone, and it depends on your mood and the situation, you are probably an ambivert: somewhere in the middle of the scale. Our test shows this directly, because Sociability is scored from 0 to 100 rather than as a yes-or-no label.

Introverts and extroverts together

Mixed couples and teams can work very well. The extrovert brings energy and connection, the introvert brings focus and depth. The key is to agree on the balance: how many social plans, how much quiet time, and how to talk things through. Our relationship test shows how your styles compare.
